History

The February, 1999 inauguration of The Silver Peak Restaurant and Brewery was not the beginning of something new, it was the end of a road that began more than a decade before for owners Dave Silverman and Trent Schmidt.

Ever since they met in high school, Dave and Trent talked about owning a business together. They weren't sure exactly what kind of business they would like to own, but when you are a teenager ... there's always time to decide later.

In 1991 Trent had just graduated from UNR with a Bachelor's Degree in Business Management, Dave was a recent graduate of "The Other CIA", the Culinary Institute of America in Hyde Park, New York, and they were both working at Adele's in downtown Reno.

After discarding a few other ideas, Dave and Trent agreed that their business should involve food ... and beer. This idea eventually led them to the realization that they needed to “research” the possibility of opening a restaurant and microbrewery.

Research is serious business, so they dove right into it and spent a number of blurry weekends researching the hell out of brewery operations in the Bay Area. 'Twas difficult work, but they stuck it out and came to the conclusion that yes, Reno needed a restaurant/brewery -despite the fact that breweries in Reno were illegal at the time- and they were the people to make it happen!

In August of 2004, Silver Peak Grill and Taproom in downtown Reno on the corner of 1st and Sierra became the second location. This was the beginning of the revitalization and renovation of downtown Reno.

And the rest, as they say, is history...
